Kindness – Color Combo Challenge

Kindness – Winnie and Walter Color Combo Challenge

At first I wasn’t sure what to do with this card, but I pulled out the Kindness with Evelin T Design’s stamp set by Winnie and Walter, saw the stripes in the trees and thought they looked similar to the skirt in the challenge picture.

I started by stamping the large tree on a piece of 3″x5.5″ Neenah white cardstock with My Favorite Things black ink. I stamped a second image on a post-it note, cut it out and used it as a mask over the tree so that I could stamp a smaller tree beside it. I colored the trees using my Prismacolor colored pencils. For the trunks of the trees, I used tuscan red, sienna brown and burnt ochre. I colored the ‘leaves’ similar to the skirt using olive green, true blue, canary yellow, and process red. After coloring the trees, I decided to color the thin lines between the colors with my ultra fine black Sharpie to give it more definition. I mounted the white cardstock on a piece of black textured carstock measuring 3.25″x5.5″.

For the background, I stamped the smallest black line from the SSS Basic Stripes stamp set about a half inch apart (repeatedly) on a piece of 4.25″x5.5″ Neenah white cardstock with black ink. I then colored the stripes with the same colors as the trees mirroring the image of the skirt. I decided it needed a little something more so I stamped over the lines with my VersaMark ink (remembering to use my anti-static powder tool first) and then heat embossed with clear powder. This gave the stripes a shiny appearance – just what it needed. I then mounted the tree part on top of the striped background with my adhesive tape runner. For my sentiment, I stamped the word Kindness from the same Winnie and Walter stamp set on white cardstock with black ink and fussy cut the word out. I added some black ink around the image to make it stand out a little more from the background. I adhered it to the card with some foam adhesive to pop it up. I added the word ‘your’ above the card and ‘brightens my day’ under the word. To finish the card off, I added some Wink of Stella to the black border and trees and some clear round drops from Studio Katia around the image.

I wasn’t sure at first if I liked the direction this card was taking but I am really happy with the results! I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for stopping by 🙂
